Migraine Remedies

Important Sites for Migraine Sufferers

New information about migraines emerges continually. Some of the information available on the Internet is reliable; much more of it is not. Reliable information comes from non-profit professional and governmental entities like the ones listed below. To keep abreast of the latest developments, turn your browser toward these reputable websites.

National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS)

A division of the US National Institutes of Health, NINDS is the federal medical research institute devoted to the study of neurological conditions, including migraine. It includes migraine-specific publications, links to other organizations, and information about ongoing clinical trials.

American Headache Society (AHS) and Committee for Headache Education (ACHE )

AHS and ACHE are twin organizations. AHS is a professional society for health care providers who focus on researching and treating headache and facial pain; they produce the work of the US Headache Consortium, which releases clinical guidelines for the prevention and treatment of migraines. Physician members of AHS and the Consortium represent:

•  American Academy of Family Physicians

•  American Academy of Neurology

•  American Headache Society

•  American College of Emergency Physicians

•  American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine

•  American Osteopathic Association

•  National Headache Foundation

ACHE is the educational resource arm of AHS—it contains many pages of migraine- and headache-specific information, as well as a search tool for locating a headache specialist in your area.

PubMed

PubMed is the online, searchable database of the US National Library of Medicine. It contains all articles published in scientific journals. Intended for use by health professionals, PubMed is an important resource for patients, too. If you see a study mentioned in the popular press, you can usually find the original publication that contains more detailed information by searching in PubMed. The latest studies in migraine treatment and prevention appear first in PubMed.
